CPR’s Ranking of the Best iOS 13 Features

If you regularly update your iPhone’s operating system (as you should), you may have had some time to dabble in Apple’s latest version. iOS 13 was released back in September 2019 and has had several incremental updates and performance enhancements since. Unlike other Apple iPhone updates that are more focused on interface and user experience improvements, iOS 13 shows its skin in visuals and overall design. After having spent time with the latest update, we’d like to offer our insight into the best iOS 13 features. Keep reading for a full review of the latest iPhone operating system!

Our Definitive Ranking of the Best iOS 13 Features

As with most new iOS updates, we’ve seen a great deal of change, ranging from massive application overhauls to minor bug fixes. Keep reading to learn why you should upgrade from iOS 12 to iOS 13.

  1. Dark Mode

One of iOS 13’s most notable new features is its system-wide Dark Mode. If you’re a fan of Night Shift mode, you will likely enjoy this darker theme. Aside from being aesthetically appealing, Dark Mode also reduces eye strain caused by Bluelight. Plus, the darker color scheme keeps our battery life from draining as quickly. You can manually switch between Light and Dark Modes to fit the environment you’re in. Additionally, you can set this darker theme to automatically switch on at a specific time through the control center.

  2. Camera and Photos App

Any important iOS device update comes with new photo- and video-editing tools. iOS 13 certainly checks that box off the list. Apple released a myriad of new tools, such as High-Key Mono, and other general settings, like vibrancy, white-balance, and noise-reduction. We also highly recommend making use of the new portrait lighting mode that allows you to increase or decrease the intensity of lighting effects in existing and live photos taken on an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. Lastly, be sure to check out the revamped Photos tab, which makes it easier to view and share your new photos and screenshots.

  3. Apple Maps

54% of smartphone users rely on their device’s navigational system each month alone. Many iPhone users rely on third-party apps for location data rather than the built-in Maps app. It was only a matter of time before the former Apple Maps got a drastic overhaul. The new and improved Apple Maps has greater road coverage and more accurate address precision and transit information. Other notable updates include Look Around, a 3D Street View style tool that lets you explore cities in high-def resolution. Plus, you can create lists of your favorite or most visited locations.

  4. QuickPath Keyboard

Apple devices now offer keyboard swiping! Swipe typing is an overall more comfortable option than tapping, particularly when you’re on the go and can only use one hand. If you’ve remained loyal to #TeamApple and have not yet experienced this type of functionality through an Android system, it may take time to get used to it. But, it will quickly become a preferred tool once you realize how much more efficient it is than the standard keyboard options.

In addition to these updates, Apple has also made changes to Siri, iCloud, Face ID, CarPlay, added new Memoji Stickers, Optimized Battery Charging, and streamlined the Mail app. You can check out the full list of updates through Apple. With so many new and improved features, we recommend upgrading your iPhone to iOS 13.
