iPhone 7 Screen Replacement

To much anticipation, the new and improved iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released in early September. Apple is promising better battery life, improved front and rear-facing cameras, and even more onboard storage space. Though initial contention arose when it was revealed that the iPhone 7 does not include a headphone jack, other notable features, including the fact that the phone is water resistant, have proven reason enough to upgrade.

While numerous improvements have been made, not even Apple can contest human error. If an accident caused damage to your iPhone 7’s screen and is impairing usability, you’ll want to have it repaired or replaced.

iPhone 7 Screen Replacement Costs

The price of iPhone screen repairs can vary based on the model you own and where you go for the service.

Official Apple Store

At an official Apple store, prices for damaged iPhone 7 screens run between $29-$349, depending on if you purchased AppleCare+. While all iPhones come with one year of hardware repair coverage, this limited warranty does not apply to cosmetic or accidental damage. AppleCare+ includes two incidents of accidental damage (though a service fee is charged) and offers a $29 screen repair.

If your warranty expired or you have not purchased AppleCare+, screen repair or replacement can cost $149. And if you have any additional damage that impairs the replacement work, this cost can go up to $349.

CPR Cell Phone Repair

At CPR Cell Phone Repair, our expert technicians are equipped to handle iPhone 7 repairs—including cracked screens—at an affordable rate. While prices are contingent upon location, all CPR stores offer free diagnosis and estimates, as well as a limited lifetime warranty. CPR professionals pride themselves on quick turnaround and will accommodate walk-in, mail-in, and same day repairs, whenever possible.

Other Service Providers

Other repair services, like Geek Squad, require a prepaid protection plan that comes with a monthly fee. And some stores lack the area coverage that CPR boasts, so their nearest store could be states away.

How to Replace an iPhone 7 Screen: DIY Guide

  1. Power off the iPhone 7/iPhone 7 Plus.
  2. At the bottom of the phone locate the two pentalobe screws and remove using a TS1 (0.8mm) screwdriver.
  3. Place a suction cup directly on the display, above the Home button and gently try to remove from the rear casing.
  4. If necessary, use a wedging device to carefully break the seal of the adhesive and pry the display from the rear casing.
  5. Open the iPhone 7 like a book.
  6. Remove the four, tri-point screws to free the display plate.
  7. Use tweezers to lift the display plate away.
  8. Then, use your wedging or spudger tool to pop off the three LCD connecting cable strips.
  9. Unscrew two more tri-point screws at the top, right-hand corner that hold down your proximity sensor.
  10. Remove the plate over the proximity sensor reveal one more cable strip that, when disconnected, will free the front display from the back of the phone.
  11. Remove the three Phillips-head screws from the bracket behind the ear speaker at the top of the display side.
  12. The bracket will pull away revealing the iPhone’s camera.
  13. Pull back the camera to remove the two screws holding in the ear speaker assembly.
  14. Lift the ear speaker out.
  15. Gently wiggle and pull up on the proximity sensor to remove it.
  16. At the bottom of the display side, locate the touch ID assembly.
  17. Unscrew the four tri-point screws holding down the bracket.
  18. Remove bracket.
  19. Gently wiggle to remove touch ID, which will slide out the front.
  20. Then remove the LCD back-plate by unscrewing six, tri-point screws.
  21. Using your wedging or spudger tool, lift up the LCD back-plate to reveal the cable strip connected to back-plate.
  22. Once you free the LCD back-plate of the cable, it should disconnect easily.
  23. Discard your old, damaged LCD and replace with the new screen, folding down your cables and lining up the side mounts, to put the 6 screws back into place.
  24. Continue to follow the steps in reverse to reassemble the phone.

iPhone 7 Screen Replacement Kit

There are DIY screen replacement kits for sale, which come with all necessary parts and tools, and free repair videos to lead you through the process. While these kits may seem an affordable alternative to a costly repair, for an average person, things can get complicated—and not to mention frustrating—quickly. To avoid the headache of attempting the repair yourself, as well as the time it takes to complete the job, bring your cracked iPhone 7 screen to CPR where our technicians thrive on these tedious tasks.

Protection Options for iPhone 7 Screen

To prevent inevitable screen damage and avoid repair costs, invest in phone cases and screen protectors for your iPhone 7.

Screen Protectors

Made from tempered glass, like the Alpha Glass Screen Protector from OtterBox and Black Ice Plus Screen Protector from Gadget Guard, screen protectors safeguard your phone against scrapes and scratches without compromising touchscreen sensitivity or image quality.

Phone Cases

Speck, OtterBox, and RhinoShield–as well as many other brands– make durable phone cases and covers to provide extra security for your iPhone 7 and protect it from scratches, drops, and dust. CPR Cell Phone Repair stores carry a variety of iPhone 7 cases to prevent further damage to your iPhone.

A Good Clean

Because your iPhone 7’s screen is the interface of the device, it is bound to get smudged and dirty quickly from the time spent using it. When cleaning your screen, never use a chemical cleaning solvent. Instead, use water and a clean, lint-free, scratch-resistant cloth, such as microfiber. Dampen the cloth–not the screen–and gently wipe off with even strokes.

If you aren’t feeling confident enough to attempt an iPhone 7 cracked screen repair on your own, or are experiencing other issues with your smartphone, no worries! CPR Cell Phone Repair is here to help. Visit us online to find the CPR location nearest you and stop in for a same-day appointment.
