Cracked Glass Replacement & Repair

Follow the cracked glass replacement and repair guide below to determine the best repair option for your device.

Cracked Glass on Your Cell Phone

Unlike many other repair issues that may involve software malfunction, cracked glass on a mobile device is easy to diagnose. It’s also easy to inflict. Cracked cell phone screens caused by drops and falls are pretty common.

What to Do with Cracked Glass

Unfortunately, the only way to fix a cracked screen is to replace it. Often a cracked screen doesn’t affect the mobile device’s ability to function right away, and owners simply learn to look past the distraction of the cracks. However, this can be dangerous, as the glass can nick or cut your skin. Over time, it can also cause more severe problems, such as dead spots, backlight malfunction, dark spots, and discoloration. Continued cell phone use with a cracked screen can eventually lead to a complete loss of functionality.

There are many do-it-yourself repair kits available for sale. With a replacement screen, a toolkit, and an online video, it is possible to replace a screen on your own. However, cell phone screens don’t just pop off and back on. Screen replacement requires a very steady hand with several delicate ribbons and other pieces. One wrong move can cause extensive and costly damage to the device.

Repairing Your Cracked Screen

The best way to repair your cracked screen without risking further damage to the phone is to bring it to a professional repair service. The trained technicians at Cell Phone Repair can fix your screen quickly and safely. If you visit a local CPR store, common repairs can be completed on-site while you wait. If you don’t have the time to wait, or if we are too far out of your way, mail it in. We will fix your screen and mail it back promptly so that you can get back to enjoying your phone.

Home Button Replacement & Repair

Utilize the troubleshooting guide below to identify and solve issues with your smartphone or tablet’s home button.

Home Button Problems

Have you left the home screen on your cell phone only to find out that you are unable to return? Broken home buttons are common and can completely disrupt your ability to operate your phone. We can repair your home button. However, there are some techniques that you can try before contacting us for repair.

Troubleshooting Home Button Problems

The issue could be dirt or sticky substance on or around the home button. Try using some rubbing alcohol (99%) and a tissue or cotton swab to wipe around the button. If this does not work, let a few drops of the alcohol land directly on the home button. Then tap the home button to let the alcohol seep in around it. After wiping the surface, wait about 15 minutes before testing the button again.

You can also try to calibrate the phone. First, open an app that was pre-installed, such as the clock. Then, hold down the sleep button until the “slide to power off” notification appears. Finally, press the home button and hold it until the home screen re-appears. Sometimes your home button can be misaligned from constant plugging and unplugging of the power connector. You can often pop it back into place but plugging in the connector, laying the phone flat, and pressing down on the connector for leverage.

Repairing Your Home Button

If none of these options worked, you probably need a professional repair for your home button. Our experienced technicians are happy to help. We keep parts for most common repairs in stock, so most of the time we can perform a same day home button repair. We also offer a mail-in repair service for customers who can’t get to a local store.

Power Button Replacement & Repair

Follow the power button replacement guide below for expert troubleshooting tips and repair advice.

Power Button Problems

If you are having trouble turning your phone on and off, it could be one of many problems. While it could be a battery issue, it could also be a broken power button. Cell buttons can take a beating through everyday wear and tear. If the phone is dropped, internal components of the power button can be knocked loose or broken causing the connections to be missed. There are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot the problem before seeking repair.

Troubleshooting Power Button Problems

First, you’ll want to make sure your battery is not dead. Charge your phone overnight and try the power the power button again. If the phone still doesn’t turn on, then it could be the power button. There are do-it-yourself kits available for replacing the power button. However, you will have to work with very small and delicate pieces of your phone, and you run the risk of causing further damage. The other problem is that you could replace the power button only to find out that the issue was really a faulty battery. A professional diagnosis and repair can minimize the risk.

If you need to use your phone or retrieve data from it before having it repaired, you might be able to power it on by removing the battery and plugging it into the charger. After about five minutes, the phone may power on by itself. This allows you to get any immediate information that you need.

Repairing Your Power Button

If you have determined that you need a professional repair for your cell phone power button, our technicians are ready to help. We have the knowledge and experience to get your power button working quickly. Visit one of our stores today or use our convenient mail-in repair service to get started.

Water Damaged Phone Repair

Cell Phone Water Damage

Water damage can cause significant problems with the delicate internal circuitry in your phone or another electronic device, leaving it inoperable and your information gone for good. Was your device dropped in the toilet accidentally or slobbered on by the dog? Did you jump in the pool with your phone, leave it in the rain, or accidentally throw it in the wash? Try the following steps to save your phone.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Water Damage

Safety note: do not touch a phone that is wet and plugged into a charger!

Remove the device from the water as quickly as possible, and remove the battery immediately. Removing the battery quickly could make the difference to save your phone. Most phones have a white indicator near the battery that will turn pink or red if water has damaged the device. You can try to draw the moisture out by submerging the phone in a bowl of rice or other absorbent material overnight. You can also try to dry it out with a vacuum cleaner, as long as you don’t hold the vacuum too close to the device. Sometimes cleaning the phone with rubbing alcohol will work if it has not been exposed to water very long.

Here are some other Do’s and Don’ts.

  • Remove the sim card, memory card, and anything else that might be plugged into the device.
  • Dry gently with an absorbent towel.

  • Don’t push any buttons! This could force water further into the circuits.
  • Don’t use a hairdryer on the phone – this could also push water into the phone and do further damage.
  • Don’t move the phone more than you have to. It is best to keep the phone still to prevent water from spreading throughout the device.
  • Don’t turn the phone on too soon. It is best to wait 24 hours before attempting to turn your phone back on.

Repairing Cell Phones with Water Damage

If you have tried the advice above and your phone is still not working, let us look at your phone. Our expert technicians at CPR will make every effort possible to salvage your water damaged phone or other device. However, if the damage is beyond repair, CPR has the technology to retrieve any information stored on your phone and transfer them to a new device. Walk-in to a local store or mail-in your device for a free estimate.

USB Port Replacement and Repair

Is your device not charging or refusing to sync when you plug it in? Frequent use of the USB port can cause problems. It’s fairly easy to dislodge internal components that make the USB port work properly. Additionally, condensation can seep into the port and cause erosion and damage to your device. We can help you with repairs. However, you should try a few simple troubleshooting tasks to ensure that professional repair is what you need.

Troubleshooting Common USB Port Problems

First, make sure that the problem is the USB port and not the cord itself. Try the USB cord with other devices to see if it is working correctly. If the cord does not work on any device, the problem might be with your cord and not the USB port. Try shutting down your device or computer, removing the power cord, and disconnecting it from other devices like printers. Restart the computer and re-try the USB port. Check online to see if there is an update for your operating system. If you are using Windows, check the device manager to see if a driver update is needed.

Repairing Your USB Port

If troubleshooting steps did not solve your problem, our trained technicians are available to help. Our expertise can save you time and money. By identifying the problem areas first, CPR experts can replace or repair problem parts without replacing boards or circuits, which can turn out to be more expensive and unnecessary. You can mail in your device for repair or walk into a store today for on-site repairs. We can often fix the problem the same day.

Speaker Replacement & Repair

Cell Phone Speaker Problems

Are you having issues with the speaker on your cell phone? You might need to have it repaired. Problems with your speaker can be a symptom of faulty wires, broken boards, or other internal issues. However, problems with sound could be caused by multiple parts of your phone.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Speaker Problems

Sometimes when you think you have a speaker problem you actually have a microphone problem. How can you tell the difference? If you are experiencing poor sound quality or you can’t hear anything sound at all, it is probably a speaker problem. If you can hear fine, but others cannot hear you on a call, then it is likely to be a microphone problem.

Your phone has more than one speaker. The internal speaker is what you hear on a phone call. It operates at a lower volume because you have the phone pressed against your ear. The external speaker is what you hear when your phone rings, or you are listening to music. This sound is meant to be louder so that you hear it when it is in your pocket, bag, purse, or across the room.

If you are not receiving any sound from your speaker, then it is probably a hardware problem with the speaker itself. However, if the sound is just distorted or fading in and out, then there could be other causes. Your phone could be having connection problems with your carrier. It could also be a software problem caused by a recently downloaded app. Check with your carrier, and if there is not a connection issue, then you might want to reset your phone. Make sure you backup your data first, as a reset will erase the data you have saved.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Speaker

If troubleshooting has not helped, we are ready to fix your problem. Our expert technicians can get your speakers working again. We offer both walk-in and mail-in repairs for your convenience.

Memory Card Reader Replacement & Repair

If you are having trouble with the memory card in your device, we can help. A failing memory card can cause slow or choppy downloads, loss of functionality, errors when loading, or strange noises when trying to save items to the card. You should first try to troubleshoot the problem to see if there is a simple solution.

Troubleshooting Memory Card Problems

If the memory card reader is in your PC, the card’s capacity might be too high for it to read. If you are trying a 16 GB memory card, test the reader with a lower-capacity card, such as 2 GB. Your PC might also require a driver update. Check your PC manufacturer’s website to see if there is an update available. Some PC manufacturers offer a diagnostic tool for your memory card reader as well.

Test the memory card in another device to make sure that it is the reader that is not working. If the memory card does not work in any device, it could be a damaged or corrupted card. Make sure that the memory card is not locked. SD memory cards have a lock on the left side that you must slide up to unlock.

Repairing Your Memory Card Reader

If you have ruled out a damaged, locked, or incompatible memory card, you might need to repair your memory card reader. We are staffed with experienced technicians who can find the problem quickly and get your device repaired and back in your hands. We offer mail-in repair service for convenient repairs that don’t interrupt your work day. We also provide walk-in repair service at our local stores. Most of these repairs can be completed on-site while you wait in our store. We’d love to help you fix your electronic device.

Cell Phone Keyboard Replacement & Repair

Cell Phone Keyboard Problems

If your cell phone keyboard buttons are not working properly, or if you have to press and hold the buttons to make them work, it could be a sign of damage from liquid. We can usually fix this problem with a professional keyboard cleaning. However, there are some things you can try to troubleshoot your keyboard issues and make sure you are addressing the right problem.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Keyboard Problems

Sometimes your keyboard problem can be caused by a software issue, and you can resolve it by turning off the phone and then turning the power back on. A factory reset may also fix the problem; however, this will erase all of your saved data.

You should also check the keys closely to see if there is dirt or debris lodged in the cracks that can be removed with a thin instrument like a needle. This surface cleaning might be all that you need to get your cell phone keyboard working properly again.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Keyboard

If you have tried cleaning and re-powering your device and still have problems, you might need professional cell phone keyboard repair. At Cell Phone Repair, our technicians are experienced and well-trained in fixing phones and other electronic devices. We can usually diagnose the problem quickly and fix the keyboard on-site while you wait. If walk-in repairs are not convenient for you, our mail-in repair service might be for you. Headphone Jack Replacement & Repair

If the sound from your computer or mobile device is hissing, crackling, or fading in and out when you use headphones, it could be your headphone jack. If you have tested your headphones with other devices to ensure that they are working correctly, the problem is most likely in the jack. However, there are some simple things that you can do to try to solve the problem before seeking repair.

Troubleshooting Headphone Jack Problems

The headphone jack may be dusty or dirty. You can try using compressed air to clean out the debris to see if this solves your issues. You may also try gently removing lint and cleaning a jack using a damp toothpick; however, you’ll need to be extremely careful when inserting the toothpick into the jack to avoid further damage.

Another troubleshooting hack to try is checking your computer or device settings. You might need to update a driver or adjust the volume. Sometimes a device will automatically mute the volume when headphones are plugged in or removed. You should also check the connection by removing the headphones and re-inserting them. They might be improperly inserted. Finally, try restarting the device to see if it solves the problem.

Repairing Your Headphone Jack

If you cannot get your headphone jack working with cleaning or other troubleshooting methods, the experienced technicians at Cell Phone Repair can help you fix the problem quickly. We offer same-day walk-in repairs. You can often have your device repaired on-site while you wait. If you don’t live near a local store or don’t have time to stop in, you can use our mail-in repair service. We will repair your headphone jack and mail it back to you.

Screen Replacement & Repair

If your smartphone screen is dead, shattered, or malfunctioning, continue reading for help troubleshooting the problem.

Cell Phone Screen Problems

From online shopping, emailing and texting to social media usage, photography and more, you’re constantly using your smartphone’s touchscreen. With so much wear and tear, it’s no wonder that smartphone displays malfunction from time to time.

Touchscreens operate using a complex set of components designed to “feel” your fingers as they move across the screen. If these components are not functioning properly, you could have problems like spots or discoloration, little or no backlight, flickering screen backlight, or buttons that don’t function. There are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot your cell phone screen problems before seeking repair.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Screen Problems

Problems with your cell phone screen can be caused by a number of issues. It could actually be the result of a software problem. Try powering of the device and then turning it back on to try to reset the software. Then check the screen to see if it has improved. The charge could be low, or the battery could be damaged. Try charging the phone for several hours and checking the screen again.

Sometimes the nature of the screen display can reveal the problem. If the screen is discolored, use a pen cap to lightly rub the screen in the discolored area. If the issue is stuck pixels, applying mild pressure to the screen might fix it. If you have a slider-style phone with a white screen, the issue could be a ribbon cable that has worn out or moved out of its socket. You might be able to move it back into place by tapping on the back of the phone where the battery is held.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Screen

If you have tried troubleshooting these issues and still have a problem, the technicians at Cell Phone Repair are ready to help you. Walk into a local store for same day repairs, or mail the phone in at your convenience. We will give you a free estimate to repair your cell phone screen.

Cell Phone Antenna Replacement & Repair

Cell Phone Antenna Problems

Although most new phones have the antenna built into the protective casing, they are still breakable. Frequent drops or jostling could be the culprit for a faulty cell phone antenna. This can cause several problems, including static, poor reception, dropped calls, slow downloads, and low wireless signals. However, you do want to make sure that it isn’t a simpler issue. There are some things that you can do to troubleshoot the problem before seeking a cell phone antenna repair.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Antenna Problems

Make sure your problem isn’t localized to the area from which you are attempting to call. You could be far away from a cell tower, or you could be in a building with certain materials that tend to block cell phone signals. Before assuming that you have a faulty antenna, try your phone signal in multiple locations. If your problem is localized, you can often solve it with a cell phone booster kit to amplify your signal and get past the interference.

You should also make sure that your phone is fully charged. Sometimes a low battery can cause similar reception problems. If the location and the battery are not the problems, you can also backup your data and then reset the phone.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Antenna

If you have verified that you don’t have a local reception problem or a low battery, your cell phone antenna might need to be repaired. Your nearest Cell Phone Repair store can help you get your phone back in working order. Battery Replacement & Repair

Follow the battery replacement troubleshooting guide below to diagnose and repair your cell phone’s battery.

Cell Phone Battery Problems

When your cell phone battery stops holding a charge, many of your day to days tasks can be interrupted. Because people rely on their phones for so much more than phone calls, a battery issue can be devastating. Sometimes the problem is damage or malfunction. However, it could also be an issue of too much use and drain on the battery. There are a few things that you can try to improve your battery performance.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Battery Problems

Changing certain habits and settings can conserve the life of your cell phone battery. Turn off location services, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi when you are not using them. These services drain the battery life quickly. Only use the vibrate setting on your phone when necessary, as it uses more battery power than the ring tone alone. Other battery-draining features are the camera and the internet, so evaluate and limit use of these features if necessary.

You can also review and clean up your apps. If there are apps that you have installed but never actually use, uninstalling them can improve battery life.

You might have heard that you need to run your cell phone’s battery all the way down to “train” it to hold a charge; this is a myth. While this was true of older batteries, most current cell phones use lithium batteries that are designed to charge often. Letting the battery get to 0% power can actually be harmful.

Heat can cause the battery to degrade; make sure you don’t leave it on the dashboard of your car, out in the sun, or next to electronics that emit heat. However, your battery can also run slow because it is too cold, so it’s best to avoid extreme temperatures.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Battery

If you have taken actions to conserve battery use and it is still not holding the charge, you might need to repair or replace the battery. Our technicians at Cell Phone Repair can take a look at your phone and estimate the cost and time of repair. You can mail it in or bring it directly to the store for a walk-in repair.

Cell Phone Camera Replacement and Repair

Follow the troubleshooting guide below in order to identify and resolve issues with your cell phone’s camera.

Cell Phone Camera Problems

Few people carry a camera as a separate device today. For most, if your cell phone camera is not working, then you don’t have a camera at all. While some camera problems result from obvious damage that needs repair, other times, the camera just stops working, and it is unclear what the issue is. If this is the case, you might want to try a few techniques to see if you can resolve the problem.

Troubleshooting Cell Phone Camera Problems

You can fix your cell phone camera with a soft reset. Remove the battery from the phone without turning it off first. After about one minute, replace the battery and turn on the phone. Try using the camera to see if this has resolved the problem.

Check to make sure the memory card is inserted correctly. You can do this by pulling out the memory card and re-inserting it carefully to ensure it is in the correct position. Test the cell phone camera again once you are sure it is firmly in place.

Your phone could need a software update. Check your model online to see if an update is available to fix your problem. Outdated software may easily be fixed with an over-the-air download. If you recently installed a new app before the cell phone camera stopped working, you might want to try uninstalling it to ensure it wasn’t the cause.

Repairing Your Cell Phone Camera

If you have tried all of the above suggestions, but your camera still does not work, the best option is to let a professional repair service look at the device. At Cell Phone Repair, we have knowledgeable technicians who can assess the problem and give you a free estimate for repairs. We offer both walk-in and mail-in services.

Charging Port Replacement & Repair

If your smartphone or tablet’s charging port is malfunctioning, continue reading for assistance troubleshooting the issue.

Charging Port Problems

Charging ports are easy to damage. Constant connecting and removal of the connector cord can be hard on the port and move, bend, or damage internal components. Sometimes a dropped phone can also cause charging issues. If your phone or mobile device has stopped charging correctly, there are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot and attempt to fix the problem.

Troubleshooting Charging Port Problems

The charging port can be dirty or dusty, blocking the connection. Try using a can of compressed air to remove debris from inside the port. If this does not help, it might need further cleaning. Turn off the device, remove the battery and use a small amount of rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner to clean inside the port very carefully. Use a piece of paper dipped in alcohol – do not spray or dump any liquid into the port itself.

You also might be using the wrong charger. Are you using the charger that came with the device? Some devices have specific power requirements that are not met by other chargers, even when they physically “fit” the charging port on your device.

Many times the tension clips on the connector at the end of the charging cord just become depressed too far. Slightly raising these tension clips with a sewing needle and a gentle touch could solve the problem.

Repairing Your Charging Port

If you have tried cleaning and routine troubleshooting, but you are still having problems with the charging port, let us evaluate the problem with a free diagnosis. Bring the device to a local Cell Phone Repair store or use our convenient mail-in service. An experienced technician will evaluate the problem and give you an estimate of time and cost to repair the charging port.
